Our Technician Awards celebrate the contribution of school technicians to the teaching and learning of science. We understand the importance of practical science to engage young people in the wonder of chemistry. Practical science depends heavily on technicians, whose expertise and skills help inspire new generations of chemists and scientists.

We award up to three prizes per year, with each Award consisting of £1,250 for the technician (or technician team) and £500 for their department.

Candidates are expected to:

  • currently be working as science technicians in schools and colleges catering for students up to the age of 18 in the UK
  • demonstrate examples of going above and beyond for their students
  • recognise ways to improve their department and/or team for the benefit of their students
  • understand the challenges and opportunities facing their sector and a vision of how they can contribute.
