Application

The Heads of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Departments at UK universities may nominate one candidate. This means there can be two nominations in total per university – one for Chemistry and one for Chemical Engineering. It is therefore advised that universities undergo their own selection procedure before nominating a candidate for the Salters’ Graduate Award.

Candidates should complete the application form (Section A) which must be supported by a reference from the Head of Department (Section B) and pay special attention to the criteria listed above. Candidates must also submit a CV with their application. Please email application forms and CVs to [email protected].

You can download the forms using the links below:

Section A – Application Form. This should be completed by the candidate.

Section B – Supporting Statement. This can be written by the Head of Department or an authorised deputy, for example Head of Teaching. Section B should be emailed to us by the Head of Department.

Deadline to apply: Friday 22nd May 2026, 5pm

If you are having issues downloading these forms, please try in a different browser or get in touch at [email protected] and we will be happy to email them to you.

Interviews

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the Salters’ Hall for interview by a range of panellists from industry in the week commencing Monday 6th July 2026. They will be interviewed by a panel comprised of leaders in industry, as well as representatives from the Salters’ Institute.

Candidates will be asked for a 5-minute presentation on their degree subject, before being asked a series of questions about their application more generally. Reasonable travel costs to attend the interview will be reimbursed.

Your completed application will be shared with the reviewing panel. The panel includes members of the Salters’ Institute team and external reviewers (such as teachers and previous awardees). Before sharing your application externally, we will remove your name and contact details. By submitting your application, you confirm that you consent to us sharing the redacted application with the external panel for the purpose of review.
