Schools: Wild City

After the success of last year our free schools project, Wild City, is back!

Wild City is a science-based project that brings to life biodiversity for Year 5 students, based in London. This five-month project will see students work with experts, the Salters’ Institute and Edible Landscapes London to explore the importance of green spaces in their lives and local communities.

Wild City features strong links to the KS2 science curriculum, off site visits and the opportunity to have a green space built at your school.

STAGE 1: Wild City Photography Competition

Kick start your students’ learning as they explore examples of biodiversity in their local area with a photo competition.

  • Deadline for photo submission is Friday 9 December
  • Winners of the photography competition will be notified the week commencing 12 December
  • Teachers of the winning schools will receive a Wild City teachers’ brochure detailing key information for the project
  • To enter the photography competition, and have a chance of progressing to Stage 2 please fill out our short Teacher’s questionnaire and upload your students photographs here.

 

STAGE 2: Wild City Launch Day

Join us at Salters’ Hall as your students meet the Wild City team and are introduced to the project theme of biodiversity through interactive experiments. These sessions will run for half a day.

  • Wild City Launch Dates are taking place on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 January. Your class only needs to attend one of these dates.
  • A free packed lunch will be provided for students and teachers
  • Your students will receive their Wild City student workbook to support their learning in and outside of the classroom

 

STAGE 3: Wild City school visits

The Wild City team visit your school to begin the design process with site surveys, recording of data and scientific investigation.

  • The school visit will take place before the February 2023 half term
  • The Wild City team will be with you for the full school day
  • Your students will have approximately one month following this visit to submit their Wild City designs. The deadline for submissions is Friday 17th March 2023.

 

STAGE 4: Wild City Celebration Day

To celebrate the end of Wild City and your students’ work, you will be invited back to Salters’ Hall to showcase their designs and reflect on the future of biodiversity.

  • Wild City Celebration Dates are Thursday 20th April and Friday 21st April 2023. Your class only needs to attend one of these dates.
  • A free packed lunch will be provided for students and teachers
  • More engaging science-based activities

The winning school will have their Wild City design brought to life in the spring of 2023.
